Italian Wraps
This is one of my family’s favorite go-to lunches (often a quick dinner too — we can’t get enough of these wraps!).
Everyone who tries these wraps quickly becomes obsessed with them. Comments typically follow on how much work they must have been to make. Except, that’s the thing — these require hardly any work at all and take mere minutes to assemble — score! We’re relying on a few store-bought shortcuts for the quick prep time, but they truly taste gourmet. You’ll be amazed how a recipe this simple can taste this good!
These wraps are an explosion of flavor and texture — crunchy croutons, soft flour tortillas, and creamy avocados — we’ve got it all rolled up in one delicious meal.
Italian Wrap Ingredients
As mentioned above, we rely on store-bought shortcuts for convenience and speed of assembly. And yet, even though these wraps are quick to assemble, we aren’t sacrificing flavor here! Below are the ingredients we use to make these wraps taste as good as possible.
- Flour tortillas. We love these unbaked tortillas by TortillaLand® (not sponsored). They are generally found in the refrigerated section of the grocery store near cheeses, and are the best flavor-wise. They have a great texture and ensure these wraps taste light and fresh. We definitely prefer unbaked tortillas that can be warmed up on the stovetop — they fold up better and taste fresher. If you only have prepared tortillas, warm them under a damp paper towel for 10 seconds in the microwave before using them.
- Mayo. We love Hellman’s/Best Foods® mayonnaise on these wraps. It has a robust flavor without being too sweet. Avoid dressings or mayos made without actual eggs; it will make these Italian wraps taste too sweet when paired with Italian dressing.
- Parmesan cheese. Grate a block of Parmesan cheese on the small holes of the cheese grater or on a microplane for a super fine, nice texture. Measure loosely. I don’t recommend jarred or canned Parmesan cheese — the flavor will be overpowering and too salty on these wraps.
- Veggies. The veggies are less particular — whatever you have on hand and fit with the flavors will work well. We love Roma tomatoes, ripe Hass avocado, and curly leaf lettuce best. Some other ideas: pickles, pepperoncini, banana pepper rings, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, cucumbers, and olives.
Ingredients, Continued
- Rotisserie chicken. We load up these wraps with leftover shredded rotisserie chicken — a lemon-herb flavored rotisserie chicken (if you can find it) pairs nicely with the flavors! Leftover grilled chicken is also a great option.
- Italian dressing. Again, we’re saving time with a store-bought option here — Olive Garden’s® Signature Italian Dressing. We’ve tried all kinds of Italian dressings, and this is hands-down our favorite store-bought option and the best flavor-wise in these Italian Wraps. They also sell a “lite” version which will work here. If you aren’t excited about a store-bought dressing, we share a great homemade dressing on this Olive Garden salad that can be used on these wraps.
- Croutons. While homemade croutons are maybe the best thing ever (evidenced in our favorite Panzanella Salad), again, we’re optimizing for speed. Store-bought croutons work great here — we love the Olive Garden Garlic & Romano croutons as a store-bought option.
- Fresh basil. This is an optional ingredient — it adds a nice fresh and light contrasting flavor, but the wraps are still tasty without it.
Quick Tip
Use leftover Italian dressing in our favorite Italian Pasta Salad, this California Pizza Kitchen copycat salad — Italian Chopped Salad, or this tasty Garbanzo BeanSalad.
Italian Wrap Tips
- The avocados lend an amazing creamy texture and satiating aspect to these wraps, making them taste indulgent. Wait for perfectly ripe avocados, as they make a huge difference — you can tell an avocado is ripe if it yields to firm gentle pressure (feels slightly soft, but not mushy).
- Enjoy quickly — these wraps are best eaten right after they’re assembled. Otherwise, the Italian dressing tends to make the tortilla and other ingredients a little soggy.
- Buy a rotisserie chicken and use the meat in these Italian wraps and then use any leftover chicken in this simple chicken salad, Chicken Pot Pie Pasta, or these quick Chicken Melts.

Italian Wraps
Ingredients
- 4 Flour Tortillas (we love TortillaLand unbaked tortillas)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise divided (we love Best Foods/Hellmans)
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, separated Note 1
- 4 large pieces leaf lettuce
- 2 Roma tomatoes
- 1 large ripe avocado
- 1 cup Leftover shredded or chopped rotisserie chicken, or leftover grilled chicken
- 1/3 cup Italian dressing Note 2
- Fine sea salt and freshly cracked pepper
- 1/2 cup croutons Note 3
- 10 leaves fresh basil, optional
Instructions
- TORTILLAS: Prepare the tortillas according to package directions. (We use unbaked tortillas, which need to be warmed through in a skillet for about a minute.) Let cool slightly. If using already-baked tortillas, warm under a damp paper towel in the microwave for 10 seconds.
- MAYO-PARM SPREAD: Using a table knife, spread the mayo evenly among all the tortillas -- 2 tablespoons per tortilla. Top each tortilla with about 2 tablespoons freshly/finely grated Parmesan cheese. Use a microplane or the small sides of a cheese grater to grate the cheese.
- VEGGIES: Next, lay down 1 large lettuce leaf (or 2 smaller ones) on each tortilla. Thinly slice the tomatoes and divide evenly among the 4 tortillas. Remove the pit and skin of the avocado, thinly slice, and add an even amount of slices to the tortillas. Top the tortillas evenly with the prepared chicken -- as much as you'd like; we add about 1/4 cup per tortilla.
- FINISHING: Drizzle the Italian dressing evenly on each tortilla on top of the chicken -- again to personal preference. If desired, add a tiny pinch of salt and pepper. Slightly crush the croutons and divide them evenly among the 4 tortillas. Optional: Ribbon the basil and divide evenly among the tortillas.
- ENJOY: Roll up tightly and enjoy immediately.
