BLT Chicken Salad

Chicken salad, tuna salad, and turkey sandwiches are on constant rotation at my house, but I love switching up the flavors to keep things interesting.

Merging my favorite chicken salad with a BLT was a no-brainer, and it’s been a huge hit! The other Saturday, we had a house full of the kids’ friends, and after one bite, they all agreed—this is the best chicken salad ever!

All the ingredients for this recipe are prepped and ready for easy assembly, including the meat, mayo, sour cream, chives, seasonings, lemon, celery, tomatoes, and Dijon.

Ingredients

What You’ll Need to Make BLT Chicken Salad:

  • Mayo & Sour Cream: The best combo for a creamy, tangy chicken salad dressing. Light sour cream works, but use good mayo!
  • Garlic & Onion Powder: Add flavor with zero chopping.
  • Salt, Pepper & Lemon Juice: Brings out the flavors and adds brightness.
  • Dijon Mustard: Adds a little kick and helps thicken the dressing.
  • Rotisserie Chicken: Juicy and tender. Dark meat stays moist and has the most flavor.
  • Cherry Tomatoes: Dice small so they mix evenly into the salad.
  • Celery & Red Onion/Chives: Add crunch and flavor. Chives are milder.
  • Bacon: Crispy, smoky, and the best part of BLT Chicken Salad! Use microwave bacon or bake it—just cook until extra crisp.

Ways to Serve BLT Chicken Salad

  • Sandwich: Pile it onto toasted bread, croissants, or a bagel.
  • Wrap: Roll it up in a tortilla with lettuce.
  • Lettuce Boats: Spoon into lettuce boats for a low-carb option.
  • Crackers: Serve with Ritz, wheat crackers, or pita chips for snacking.
  • Stuffed Avocado: Scoop into halved avocados.
  • Straight from the Bowl: No shame—just grab a spoon and dig in!

Quick Tip

This chicken salad is great on its own, but a side makes it even better. Try fresh fruit, Kettle chips or sweet potato fries, or a cup of soup like tomato basil or creamy vegetable to make it heartier. For something lighter, go with a garden salad or cucumber slices with ranch.

All the other ingredients added into the bowl with the dressing and it all mixed together.

Storage

How to Store BLT Chicken Salad

  • Best Same Day: The tomatoes can get watery, and the bacon softens over time.
  • Fridge: If storing, keep in an airtight container for up to 1 day.
  • To Make Ahead: Store bacon and tomatoes separately and mix it in just before serving.
  • No Freezing: Mayo-based dressings don’t freeze well and can separate.

BLT Chicken Salad

BLT Chicken Salad is a total game-changer. All the bold flavors of a BLT mixed into creamy, crunchy chicken salad. Stuff it in a croissant, scoop it onto lettuce, or grab a spoon and dig in!
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 4 sandwiches

Equipment

Ingredients

Dressing
  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 3 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper 1/4 teaspoon of each
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Dijon-style mustard
Chicken Salad
  • 2 lightly packed cups finely diced rotisserie chicken see note 1
  • 3/4 cup diced cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion or 3 tablespoons diced chives
  • 6 slices bacon cooked and finely diced
  • Serving Suggestions see note 2

Instructions

  • Tip: The smaller and more evenly you dice everything, the better the salad's texture!
  • In a large bowl, whisk together all dressing ingredients until smooth.
  • Add chicken, tomatoes, celery, onion, and bacon right on top of the dressing. Gently fold until everything is well coated.
  • Spoon onto sandwiches with avocado and lettuce, into a halved avocado, in lettuce boats with avocado, or enjoy with crackers.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: Any cooked chicken works, but rotisserie is easiest. Pull it from the bones and dice it finely (see pictures).
Note 2: Enjoy in sandwiches, wraps, lettuce boats, or with crackers. Try it on sliced apples or stuffed into an avocado—or just eat it straight from the bowl! I love adding extra mayo, lettuce, and avocado to a sandwich.
Storage: Best eaten the same day, as tomatoes get watery and bacon softens. If storing, keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day. For the best texture, store bacon separately and add tomatoes just before serving. Do not freeze—mayo-based dressings don’t hold up well.
