Bunny Bait
Since this Leprechaun Bait was such a huge hit, I decided to add another fun snack mix to the site: Bunny Bait! We’ve got three types of cereal, pretzels, and M&M’s. Everything gets tossed together with melted white chocolate and becomes a mix you won’t be able to stop snacking on! (Or is that just me?!)
How to make Bunny Bait
- Combine ingredients: Use a large bowl to mix all the ingredients. The bigger the bowl, the easier it will be for everything to get an even coating of white chocolate.
- Note on ingredients: This mix is best with ingredients that are generally the same size. While most of the ingredients are similar sizes, regular-sized pretzels can easily overpower everything else; use itty bitty pretzels or mini pretzel rods.
- Melt white chocolate: Microwave the chocolate until melted and then immediately toss it with the mix. White chocolate hardens quickly, so work fast.
- Let harden: Spread the Bunny Bait onto the baking sheet and let it stand at room temperature to harden. If you’re in a rush, refrigerate for about 10-20 minutes. Break apart and enjoy or package up!
Quick Tip
Break the Bunny Bait into fairly small chunks. Smaller bites are easy on smaller mouths, and this helps pace littler children so they don’t eat too much, too quickly!
Bunny Bait tips
- Use high-quality white chocolate for best results: Using premium chocolate will give you both a better melt and a better flavor. (My favorite on this bunny bait is Ghirardelli® or Guittard®.)
- Get creative: As long as the quantities generally follow the recipe, get creative with what you add. Some ideas: popped popcorn, peanuts or cashews, and/or festive sprinkles!
- The best tip I have for avoiding burned white chocolate: Stir the chocolate often in between the melting process (every 30 seconds) and stir it for at least 20-25 seconds in between each microwave burst. Remember, the chocolate is still melting even outside of the microwave. More white chocolate melting tips here.
Storing Tips
- Store Bunny Bait in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. We like this snack mix best within 3-4 days.
- You can freeze any leftover Bunny Bait in an airtight container/bag for up to 3 months; thaw at room temperature.

Bunny Bait
Equipment
- Sheet pan lined
Ingredients
- 2 cups corn Chex cereal or rice cereal
- 1 cup mini pretzel twists or pretzel rods
- 2 cups Cap'n Crunch cereal without berries
- 2 cups Honey-Nut Cheerios cereal or other toasted oat cereal
- 1 cup Easter M&M's or other candy-coated chocolate
- 1-1/2 (16-ounce) bags white chocolate chips
- 1-1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil or shortening
Instructions
- Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a very large bowl combine the Chex, pretzels, Cap'n Crunch, cheerios, and M&M's together.
- In a medium bowl add the white chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and microwave for another 25 seconds. Stir until melted and smooth. If needed, return to the microwave for a little longer, 10 seconds or less.
- Pour the melted white chocolate over the snack mix, using a spatula to scrape it all into the mix. Working quickly, gently stir until cereal mix is well coated in the white chocolate and then transfer to the prepared baking sheet and spread into one even layer.ย
- Allow to harden at room temperature or place in the fridge until firm, about 10โ20 minutes. Break into pieces and serve!

I would love to make this, but, 549 calories in 1/2 cup?
The serving size is for 1 serving out of the 8 servings this makes, that will come out to be more than 1/2 cup! Hope this helps!

Do you prefer corn or rice chex?
Either works! I like rice chex best in this mix though probably ๐
