Ingredients

Here’s a breakdown of each ingredient in this chocolate chip dip recipe:

  • Full-fat, brick-style cream cheese: Use full-fat, brick-style (not whipped) cream cheese. Philadelphia Cream Cheese® is a great choice.
  • Vanilla extract: Imitation vanilla adds a sweet flavor without alcohol.
  • Light brown sugar: Adds sweetness and balances the dip. Skip if you prefer less sweetness.
  • Salt: Even a pinch add tons more flavor.
  • Marshmallow creme/fluff: Makes the dip light and fluffy. Kraft® Jet-Puffed works well.
  • Heavy whipping cream: Whipped to soft peaks for a light, rich texture.
  • Mini chocolate chips: Adds sweetness and crunch. Semi-sweet chips keep it from being too sweet.

Process shots: cream the ingredients together; add in the marshamallow fluff and combine.

How To Make Chocolate Chip Dip (Tips)

  1. Soften cream cheese: Let it sit at room temperature or microwave it for 20-30 seconds, unwrapped, to prevent lumps.
  2. Add heavy cream: Slowly mix it in while beating until the mixture is thick with soft peaks. Don’t beat too much to avoid making it too stiff.
  3. Fold in chocolate chips: Gently mix in chocolate chips with a spatula to keep the dip light.
  4. Chill the dip: Put it in the fridge for 15-20 minutes to let the flavors blend and make the dip firmer.

Storage

Chocolate Chip Dip Storage

Storing: Keep it covered in the fridge for 2-4 days. If it separates, gently mix it with a spatula to fix it.

Freezing: Don’t freeze it. Freezing can change the texture, making it grainy or lumpy.

Chocolate Chip Dip

With rich cream cheese, gooey marshmallow creme, and plenty of mini chocolate chips, this Chocolate Chip Dip is perfect for dipping pretzels, graham crackers, or strawberries, and it's sure to be a hit at your next party!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Chilling Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Servings: 12 servings

Equipment

  • stand mixer or hand mixer

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese softened, see note 1
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract see note 2
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar lightly packed
  • 1/16 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (7-ounce) container marshmallow creme
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 (10-ounce) bag mini chocolate chips
  • Serving suggestions see note 3

Instructions

  • Unwrap the cream cheese, place on a microwave-safe plate, and microwave for 20โ€“30 seconds or until soft. Add softened cream cheese, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer. Use a whisk attachment to beat until the mixture is completely smooth.
  • Run a spoon under hot water. Dry it off then use this spoon to pull the marshmallow creme out of the container into the stand mixer. Mix until incorporated. With the mixer running on low speed, gradually add the heavy cream. Once the cream is all added in, increase the speed and beat until nicely thickened with soft peaks (see note 4). Don't over-beat.
  • Add in chocolate chips and fold in gently with a spatula. Cover dip and chill in the fridge for 15โ€“20 minutes. Fold again with a spatula and then serve with your favorite dippers. Pretzels and vanilla wafers are our favorites!

Recipe Notes

Note 1: Full-fat, brick-style cream cheese delivers the best results. I also recommend using a good quality brand like Philadelphia Cream Cheeseยฎ.
Note 2: Useย imitation vanilla in this recipe so that your dip doesn't taste like alcohol. This is important as the dip does not undergo any baking process that could potentially remove the alcohol flavor.
Note 4: There are tons of great options for dipping. I love to use pretzels, Vanilla Wafers, graham crackers, strawberries, and Milano cookies.
Note 5: Soft peaks refers to the stage in whipping heavy cream when the beater is lifted and the peak created falls back slightly onto itself, forming a soft and somewhat floppy peak. This stage is achieved when the cream is thick and holds its shape, but the peak still has a soft appearance.
Storage: Store in the fridge, covered, for 2โ€“4 days. Separation during storage can be fixed by folding with a spatula. Freezing is not recommended due to dairy causing grainy or curdled texture when frozen.
