This classic and rich Strawberry Milkshake takes minutes to whip together and only requires four ingredients. It is certain to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Use your leftover strawberries in this famous strawberry shortcake, strawberry banana smoothie, or strawberry salad.

Two strawberry milkshakes with whipped cream on top and straws in them, a thick and delicious dessert.

The Best Strawberry Milkshake

My mom has always loved cold drinks like smoothies, milkshakes, and açaí bowls. She used to make them frequently, including a variety of milkshakes like chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream, and her specialty, strawberry milkshakes.

Her recipe is a family favorite for its simplicity and deliciousness.

Quick Tip

If your ice cream is hard as a rock, take it out of the freezer and let it soften ever so slightly for a few minutes.

All ingredients being added to the blender.

Ingredients

  • Strawberries: Provide the main flavor and natural sweetness in your strawberry milkshake.
  • Vanilla Extract: Enhances the overall flavor; optional.
  • Vanilla Bean Ice Cream: Gives creaminess and sweetness, forming the shake’s base.
  • Whole Milk: Adjusts the milkshake’s thickness; less milk for a thicker shake.
  • Whipped Cream and Freeze-Dried Strawberries (Optional Toppings): Add texture and visual appeal.

Strawberry milkshake recipe blended until smooth, still in the blender jar.

Strawberry Milkshake

This classic Strawberry Milkshake is rich, sweet, and comes together in minutes with just four ingredients. Perfect for satisfying any sweet craving!
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 1 milkshake

Equipment

  • Blender high-powered

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups fresh ripe strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • 2 packed cups vanilla bean ice cream use a good-quality brand
  • 3/4 to 1 cup whole milk
  • Optional additions see note 1
  • Toppings as desired see note 2

Instructions

  • Chill a glass (see note 3). Wash and dry the strawberries. Remove the stems and slice the strawberries to get 1 and 1/2 cups.
  • In a high-powered blender, combine the freshly cut strawberries, vanilla extract, vanilla bean ice cream, and milk (depending on desired thickness; 3/4 cup will be thicker). If desired, add in malt powder and sugar. Blend until smooth. Donโ€™t over blend, as that will water down/thin out the milkshake.
  • Pour the milkshake into a cold glass and top with whipped cream and any other toppings of your choice. I like adding crushed up freeze-dried strawberries on top of the whipped cream.

Recipe Notes

Note 1: Optional additions: 1โ€“2 tablespoons powdered milk or malt powder, 1โ€“2 tablespoons granulated sugar (if strawberries arenโ€™t ripe enough).
Note 2: Optional toppings: a swirl of whipped topping and crushed up freeze-dried strawberries.
Note 3: Before starting the milkshake, put your glass in the freezer to get it cold!
Storage: Best enjoyed fresh; freeze leftovers and reblend with a splash of milk.
