Reindeer Cookies

Move over, Cut Out Sugar Cookies – decorating these cookies is way more fun!

And who can resist a good chocolate cookie?! They’re the best! And while my son would disagree (he’s all about these Swig Sugar Cookies), I’m team chocolate all the way.

These Reindeer Cookies are not just a blast to make; they’re also festive and incredibly delicious!

Decorating a cookie to resemble a reindeer: beginning with frosting, adding candy eyes and a wafer, placing pretzels as antlers, and finishing with a red candy nose.
  • Chocolate cookies: Pick classic, brownie, or caramel from the recipe—or use store-bought cookies or dough.
  • Chocolate frosting: Use homemade or store-bought—whatever is easier.
  • Pretzel twists: These make the antlers!
  • Vanilla wafers: These create a perfect base for the reindeer face.
  • Edible candy eyes: You can find these in most grocery baking aisles or online.
  • Red candies: I use M&M’s®, but any small red chocolate candy will work!

Quick Tip

I recently tried these gluten-free, vegan cookies, and they were delicious. They’re a great choice if you need to consider allergies!

  1. Bake Cookies: Make or bake your favorite chocolate cookies and let them cool completely.
  2. Frost Cookies: Spread chocolate frosting over each cookie.
  3. Decorate: Place a vanilla wafer on the lower half for the face.
  4. Add Eyes: Add two candy eyes above the wafer.
  5. Rudolph Nose: Attach a red M&M to the center of the wafer with frosting.
  6. Make Antlers: Press two pretzel twists into the top for antlers.
  7. Serve: Enjoy right away for the best texture!
The finished dessert, adorable and festive, delicious and ready to be enjoyed.

Tips For Making Reindeer Cookies

  • Cool before decorating: Let cookies cool completely; otherwise, the frosting may melt.
  • Frosting: For a smoother look, use a piping bag.
  • Decorating details: Secure eyes and noses with frosting; gently add pretzel antlers to attach without breaking.
  • Decoration timing: If possible, add the pretzels and wafers close to the time of serving to maintain their crunch.
  • Presentation fun: Serve Reindeer Cookies on a bed of coconut flakes to mimic snow!

    Storage

Once decorated, enjoy these Reindeer Cookies soon, as the vanilla wafers and pretzels tend to soften quickly.
