S’mores Muddy Buddies take the classic campfire S’mores recipe and give it a fun twist! Imagine a mix of crunchy graham cereal coated with a sweet combo of milk chocolate and peanut butter, plus tiny crunchy marshmallows throughout. It’s S’mores, but crunchier and ready to munch any time you want!
S’mores Muddy Buddies
I am a cereal lover through and through and my all-time favorite has to be Post Honey Oh’s®! If you haven’t tried this cereal, you’re missing out!
Recently, after enjoying a bowl of Honey Oh’s, a thought occurred – why not use this as a base for Muddy Buddies?! With its distinct graham cracker flavor, the idea of S’mores Muddy Buddies immediately came to mind.
I took the plunge, and I am here to tell you that there’s no turning back! I am wholly convinced that these are the BEST Muddy Buddies you will ever taste! To make them even richer, I’ve altered my base Muddy Buddies recipe a little by using less cereal to get more of the chocolate-peanut butter coating. I then top it off with a dusting of graham cracker crumbs for an unmistakable S’mores flavor.
And guess what else gets tossed in? Dehydrated marshmallows. I did give regular marshmallows a shot, but they didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of texture, and they reduced the shelf life of the snack mix. With the dehydrated marshmallows, the mix was perfect!
I can’t wait for you to try these delicious S’mores Muddy Buddies! My family adores them, and I’m confident you will too!
S’mores Muddy Buddies Ingredients
- Post Honey Oh’s cereal: A great choice for this recipe due to its natural sweetness, big flavor, crunch, and graham flavor. You could substitute with similar cereals, such as Golden Grahams®, if needed.
- Dehydrated marshmallows: These add a delightful texture and a hint of classic S’more flavor. You can usually find them in the baking aisle of your local grocery store, or purchase them online. We did try regular marshmallows, but didn’t enjoy the texture.
- Mini chocolate chips: These give little bursts of chocolatey flavor throughout the snack and emphasize the chocolate aspect of the S’mores flavor profile we’re going after.

- Milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips: Either type will work depending on your preference. Milk chocolate will yield a sweeter, creamier, and more classic S’mores flavor, while semi-sweet chips will provide a slightly more bitter chocolate flavor.
- Creamy peanut butter: This adds a rich, creamy texture and nutty flavor that pairs well with the chocolate. Be sure to use smooth peanut butter rather than crunchy for the best texture.
- Unsalted butter: Unsalted butter allows you to control the salt content in your recipe. If you only have salted butter on hand, you can use it, but you may want to reduce or omit the additional salt.
- Fine sea salt: A small amount of salt enhances the overall flavor of the snack by balancing out the sweetness of the other ingredients.
- Vanilla extract: This optional ingredient adds depth to the flavor of these S’mores Muddy Buddies.
- Powdered sugar: This gives the Muddy Buddies their signature sweet, powdery coating. Be sure to use powdered sugar, not granulated.
- Graham crackers: For the best texture, make sure they are ground into fine crumbs. This can be done quickly in a blender or food processor!
How To Make S’mores Muddy Buddies (Tips)
- Mix gently: When incorporating the melted peanut butter-chocolate mixture into the cereal, be sure to stir gently to avoid crushing the cereal and marshmallows. A soft silicone spatula is an ideal tool for this.
- Layer the sugar: When adding powdered sugar to the bag, layering it with the cereal mixture helps ensure that every piece gets a good coating. This is key for that signature Muddy Buddy coating.
- Work in batches: If you find it difficult to evenly coat all the cereal at once, try working in batches. This can make it easier to ensure each piece is adequately covered.
- Melt in the microwave: When melting the chocolate and peanut butter in the microwave, use short bursts of time and stir thoroughly in between. This prevents overheating and helps achieve a smooth, easy-to-pour mixture.
- Use a large bag for the coating: Make sure the bag you use for the powdered sugar and graham cracker coating is large enough. You need plenty of space for the cereal to move around, so they’ll be evenly coated.
Storage
Storing S’mores Muddy Buddies
For leftover S’mores Muddy Buddies, transfer them to an airtight container such as Mason jars or Weck mold jars. Keep these containers in a cool, dry place. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week, but we recommend enjoying them within 2-3 days for the best flavor.
For longer storage, this snack mix can be frozen. Simply place the mix in an airtight container or a sealable plastic bag and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy them, you can thaw the mix at room temperature OR nibble on them straight from the freezer either – they’re fantastic frozen!

Delicious! Love the tiny marshmallows – I would add extra next time even they have a very pleasant texture with the crunchy cereal. Great recipe!
